The State of California added wood dust to the list of known harmful substances under Proposition 65 in 2009. Effective December 18, 2010, the California Health and Safety Code 25249.6 mandates that no person in the course of doing business shall willingly and intentionally expose an individual to wood dust without first providing clear and reasonable warning.
The California Attorney General’s Office indicates that in their view retailers of wood products have a duty to provide a general warning to the purchaser of wood products. The following warning, if properly displayed would meet that requirement. This warning should be displayed at the retail point of sale so it would be seen by the purchaser of wood products.
